Strong Lip Designs, Charts and Tests

I really want people to look at my strong lip shoot and know strait away that the shoot is all about the lips. Lips are not my strong point to so I need to put a lot of thought into how I can make it the best lip I can do.

First of all, I thought about lip shape. Our lesson with Yvonne taught us how many different lip shapes there are and how much of an effect they have, and how makeup artists don't always go with the models lip shape, it can be changed to mean something different each time. Whether its strong and pointy which will look harsh on camera or rounded and smudged which comes across a lot softer. You can use these techniques to change the models lip shape and create a specific look. i did some lip designs to think about different shapes and what each will achieve:

Seeing lots of different shapes, drawing them and painting them, really helped me decide not only what I thought would demand most attention in the shoot but also what links the most to UD. I decided on a full, thick lip with delicate, rounded points, a strong colour and a concave edge and sqaured bottom corners. This lip, to me, looks strong and demanding while remaining beautiful. It isn't harsh either. These are the key elements that I want to include in my shoot.

Now lip lines are not my forte, so I plan to practise LOTS before  I do my shoot. I am also testing out product because at the moment I'm thinking of doing a slightly shiny, dark red/burgudy lip.
The first test, as you can see, is not great because my lip lines aren't neat. I am, however, happy with the general shape and colour ( The lipstick is Diva by M.A.C) So I now know that I need to keep this general shape and colour/tone, but work on the line application to neaten it up.

After more practise I am happy with the shape and line of my lip. I have practised and it is a lot neater and even around the edges, which is something that I really needed to nail and the techniques I learnt from Miri really helped me achieve this, and I'm very happy with it. It is demanding but pretty, which goes along with the UD "beauty with an edge" mantra.

I still haven't decided on the actual colour but once my face chart is done it will be decided.

UPDATE:
After playing with lip charts, shapes and thinking of what kind of eye I want t compliment the lip, Ive decided to go for a pinky bright lip (see face chart below.) This is because UD does quite a lot of dark red lips and I wanted to be something a little different, that could appear in a UD campaign rather than coming it strait out of the book. You see very few UD lips this colour and I think its an interesting path to explore. It links with the ACID palette and how UD could be getting more girly and brighter.

I also decided on a natural eye, using the NAKED palette with champing and gold tones on the lid and a kohl line on the upper lash line. No lashes. This is to ensure all the focus goes on the lips. I will, however, really concentrate on the skin for a bronzed, sun-kissed glow to compliment the lip colour.
